The Sambar Deer

The Sambar Deer (Rusa unicolour) is one of the larger members of the deer family and is quite widespread throughout the world. Males have antlers that can grow to just below a meter. They have a life expectancy between 16 to 20 years. Unlike the spotted deer, which gives out a loud alarm and darts away at the sight of a predator, the sambar deer tends to nervously observe a predator and keep giving out warning calls until it is too late to escape, making it the main reason many falls prey to predators.
