There are only approximately 25 grams of astatine that occur naturally on the planet at any given time. Astatine is the least reactive and is the most metallic of all the halogens. Due to its scarcity, many of its physical properties are still unknown. Some scientists think it has the potential to be used in nuclear medicine for treatment of cancer.
